Apple Pie for breakfast, anyone? The Julian Pie Company in Santa Ysabel has the best apple pie, ever. Jerry and I took Grandpa Vince and the kids this morning, to watch them make pies, of course. But since we were there, we couldn’t just leave without having any pie… and well, what good is amazing dutch apple pie without their cinnamon ice cream on top? Yeah, we decided to be “bad parents” this morning, and let our kids have apple pie and ice cream for breakfast. And, it was so good! Totally work the 30 minute drive from Grandpas house.
Sufficiently loaded with sugar, and stocked up on cider donuts for tomorrows breakfast (hey, why not? We are on vacation after all), we decided on a whim to drive further east and into the Borrego Desert. Grandpa makes for such a fun tour guide, telling us all about the geography, and showing us his favorite dirt biking locations. We saw some awesome metal sculptures out in the middle of nowhere and we did a little off roading as well. We continued our tour east, all the way to the Salton Sea – an accidental, stinky body of water in the middle of the desert. We had lunch at a very authentic hole in the wall Mexican taco shop, and the tacos were very authentic. Mmmm. All this good food… I’ll be amazed if I don’t gain 15 pounds on this trip!
