Father / Daughter Dance

Lily was so excited for tonight. Last night, when brought up the Father/Daughter dance, Jerry couldn’t even finish asking her if she wanted to go, before she was interrupting him to say “I want to go! But don’t have any shoes to wear to the dance.” She looked over to me, immediately, with a look of concern, and I assured her that we would find her shoes to wear. Relieved, she very excitedly repeated that she wanted to go. When I got home from work, today, I had barely made it in the door before she was throwing out dress options to wear tonight: “I could wear my wedding dress, like last year, but it’s missing a button. So that leaves my Easter dress with the flowers, or my cow dress with the green bow. Which one should I wear, mommy?” Of course then there was the shoe question, again: “Mommy, I still don’t have any dress shoes.” No, maybe not, but she has been obsessed with boots lately, so I knew I could convince her to wear them instead of dress shoes, and besides, it would be much more of a Lily Style outfit that way. So suggestions were narrowed down to her Easter dress with the pink light up cowgirl boots, or her “Cow” dress and her black knee high boots and she finally decided on the “cow” dress and black knee high boots. Oh, my little trend setter. We made dinner, and the whole time she was so concerned that they were going to be late. We kept assuring her that they had plenty of time, but she inhaled her dinner and ran off to get dressed anyway. Jerry got dressed, and checked with Lily for approval on his attire which she approved, even though he was in her second choice for ties… daddy hates paisley.

The dance was from 7-10pm, at Ridgeview. Last year, Lily had plenty of fun, but they were home by 9. Expecting much of the same, I was surprised to not see them home until just after 10. And not only that, but Jerry wasn’t carrying a sleepy 6 year old up the stairs, she was bouncing along happily, like a girl who just got home from a great date. Grinning from ear to ear, she told me about some of her favorite dances they learned, and promised to show them to me tomorrow. I love seeing my little girl so happy after a night out with her daddy.
