Trash the Dress
A lot of the more daring, creative, adventurous brides have really gotten into this new trend that has become increasingly popular within the wedding photography industry. It's being most commonly called "Trash the Dress" (TTD). The idea behind "Trash the Dress" is to give your wedding gown a second life. Brides are so concerned about keeping their dress clean and nice for the ceremony and reception, but that's the only time it ends up getting worn. They end up with beautiful photos from their photographer in all the classic poses, and then the dress remains forgotten in a box in the back of the closet for years to come with the hopes that someday the couples daughter will wear it on her wedding day, only to find out that even after the $400 preservation, 20+ years in a box still damages the dress beyond use. I'm not really sure if the trend was started by a creative photographer who convinced a bride not to save her dress but have fun with it or if maybe it was a bride that convinced a photographer to help her do something a little unheard of with it. Either way, brides are enjoying a second day in their gown, wearing it in places you wouldn't normally pose for bridal shots, doing things you wouldn't dare do before, during or after your ceremony. The result, totally fun, full of personality, images of the bride in her gown - sometimes with her groom and or bridal party as well. So, all this to be said because for the last year, my sister in law has been considering giving this a shot, though with much hesitation. She is not wanting to completely ruin her dress, as the name of the shoot suggests, but still wanting those more "fun" images. While "Trash the Dress" is just the name of the shoot, and certainly does not need to be meant to destroy the gown, we decided to give it a shot. Here are some of my Favorites.
