January Chess Tournament

Caleb and Lily both participated in the January Chess Tournament today. Lily had expressed some interest in participating in the December tournament, but since Kyndall ended up opting out, Lily did too. Today, we didn't have the other 4 with us, so she decided to give it a go. The tournament coordinators allowed her to play as a Kindergartner even though she is still in preschool. She did well, playing all 5 rounds. Peaking in the window, I saw that the instructors did stop by to help them out a bit, but that's pretty common for Kindergartners anyway. She ended up losing 4 rounds, and getting a draw in one. Not too bad for a first timer! Caleb did really well too. He ended up with 3 wins and 1 lose and a stalemate and ended up getting the 5th place individual trophy for his age bracket. because it was a team tournament, the individual playing points were calculated and school rankings were determined as well. Ridgeview ended up getting 2nd place for the K-5th grade bracket, and 1st place for the 6th-12th grade bracket. Woo hoo! Go Ridgeview :)
