I’m an introvert, like 100% of the time. Talking in front of people – hate it; especially when I’m trying to teach/lead them in something. Today, I did it twice. Jerry was in the Springs for a conference all day, so I coached soccer for him this morning. First of all, I only watch soccer, I don’t play it and I certainly don’t coach it. But I did. Fortunately for me, the girls are only 6 so there isn’t really a whole lot of teaching involved yet. I mean, there is during practices, but for game time, they can get by with a cheerleader. We did ok. My kids all wanted to help with warm ups and run drills with the girls, but only Kyndall ended up helping. The “Twins” took off to play at the playground the whole time instead. Jerry made me a line up to follow so I didn’t have to wing it, there, which I’ve done when I “Coached” a game for a friend when our girls were 5. I survived, and the girls played well.
This evening, Jerry wasn’t due home until about 730, and then after his last meeting went long, he knew he wasn’t going to make it home in time for anything, so he met up with his uncle instead. Well, we lead a small group which we just switched to Saturday evenings from 630-8. It’s a video series, which we watched for the first 30-40 minutes, but then it was discussion time and I had to lead it. All by myself! The workbook guide is useless for leading discussions, full of “Yes” and “No” questions, and leading this group really takes a lot of guidance and keeping the conversation on track. On top of that, I don’t know the couples that well yet, so it’s a lot like working with strangers. Again, I survived. The conversation went well and only got a little of track a few times, but I was able to pull it back on course.
I know I’m just being a whiner, but I’m ready to go back to being an introvert. I don’t know how Jerry fakes it so well! On the plus side, I did have fun today, I was just uncomfortably far out of my comfort zone… But I guess that’s ok once in a while.
